The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) plays a key role in South Africans’ lives, yet few know it exists or understand its impact. From telecommunications and navigation to weather forecasts and disaster monitoring, SANSA helps make these systems possible. But a low profile and dated identity meant its value wasn’t recognised, doing little to inspire pride or cuiriosity about an African space agency.

We went back to local culture to create a brand that felt both proudly South African and suitably cosmic. Drawing on beadwork patterns, shield shapes and sharp geometry, we developed SANSA’s distinctive ‘impact radials’. This graphic system showed the Agency’s impact radiating outwards to symbolise its reach; envisioned to live across everything from scientific reports and data visualisations to educational materials and digital platforms.

The refreshed identity translates complex science into a clear story of impact. SANSA now looks and feels like an African space agency with a unifying design framework that builds recognition and helps South Africans see the link between satellites in orbit and the services they rely on every day.
