A Million Girls Foundation Radio Stories
A Million Girls Foundation exists to keep African girls in school through uninterrupted education, even during menstruation. Yet for millions, periods still mean missed classes, shame and silence.

purpose
In South Africa alone, many girls cannot afford sanitary products, losing weeks of learning in an already unequal system. Our task was to turn an overlooked crisis into something people could feel, not just read about.
We created an emotive social audio series, crafted in the tradition of powerful radio storytelling, and shared it across social channels. Each episode followed a girl’s daily journey to school – early mornings, long walks, dangerous routes – told in her voice and sound-designed to place listeners right beside her.
The stories tested human character through courage, resilience and self-belief, with one simple goal driving every step: to stay in school and build a better life. At the turning point of each piece, menstruation appeared as the barrier interrupting her journey, reframing period poverty as an education issue, not just a hygiene one.
